Just five minutes from Lakeview Lodge at the Southern end of Lake Karapiro, Lake District Adventures offers visitors the opportunity to explore unique parts of a largely undiscovered Waikato region.

The twilight glowworm tour is a firm favourite with many of our guests.

Starting late afternoon/early evening, paddle along the southern edge of Lake Karapiro & over the old submerged Horahora power station that produced electricity for the early Waihi Gold fields.  Learn the history of the Horahora village and enjoy twilight on the water as night arrives over the lake.

Paddle slowly up the Pokaiwhenua Stream and through the canyon carved out by water over many hundreds of years. Native ferns & trees drape over you, bird life is all around.  When darkness falls, float silently back downstream being guided by the glow worms on either side sparkling like Christmas lights.

Bookings are essential, minimum numbers apply and a shuttle

service can be arranged by Lakeview Lodge.

All children under 15 to be accompanied by a capable adult and the minimum age for this tour is 8 years.
